A Colorado Springs transplant from Anchorage, Alaska, Sheary Clough Suiter has received numerous awards and grants recognizing her expertise in Encaustic, including a Permanent Collection Purchase by the Anchorage Museum of Art and an Alaska State Council on the Arts Career Opportunity Grant, funded by the National Endowment for the Arts.
Encaustic paint is made from pure pigment, natural beeswax, and tree resin. Brushed or poured onto a wood support in its molten state, then fired with a torch, this ancient painting method is now the “hottest” new collectible in the contemporary visual arts world. Suiter's original encaustic paintings are represented locally at 45 Degree Gallery in Old Colorado City, and she teaches workshops on the art of painting with encaustic at Bemis School of Art.
