Interests with typography and mixed media emerged in Jack's youth when creating signs for an upscale department store in Chicago. In those early days, he was already collecting and integrating type samples in wood, metal, and other materials, combining different styles of type with various media for creative messaging with visual effects that attracted the eye. His distinct skill with type and media plus his talent for interior design came together, positioning Jack in a professional niche for successful commercial presentation.

In the art studio off-hours, Jack was also experimenting with unconventional tools and techinques, developing his distinctive knack with color, proportion, and balance for spacial areas and flat surfaces. Educational experiences in art and especially his exuberant freedom to explore how media can be used came together and naturally launched Jack on an unending journey to uncover the cumulative effects of layer upon layer of opaque and semi-transparent pigments plus accent media. Through the years, his artistic instincts have flourished with expression from his heart. Every work is a new experience, as if its own intuitive journey. This is a very natural and comfortable path for Jack, being a man on a journey himself, moving among the layers of life toward personal freedom and wholeness.

Today, Jack is continually following his heart for artistic creativity as a master of collage expressing far more than just the eyes may perceive. The venue for the work is his non-traditional studio. The agenda is his persistently unplanned use of diverse media. The beginning of each work is never sketched. The process is only charted in the moment while on the way with imagination and intuition the continual companions. Destinations are felt as much as observed. The results are creative works, visual and intuitive experiences that spring from flat surfaces with color, proportion, and balance.
