Kay Jeansonne

Growing up in Cajun country near Lafayette, Louisiana, I learned to live with “joie de la vie” (joy of life). A sense of adventure and wonder about nature was born in me as I explored the swampland of Acadiana. I watched my dad paint the wildlife of the rich swamplands and fell in love with the outdoors and with putting on the canvas my experience of nature.

After receiving a B.F.A. and an M.A. I headed for the mountains of Colorado. Here I found my true love, using oil paint to express the “joie de la vie” that was in my soul.

My training continued as I studied traditional techniques of drawing and painting for seven years at Cottonwood Artists’ School in Colorado Springs. In recent years my work has moved in the direction of painting people in the landscape. No matter what the subject matter is, if it stirs my soul, I’ll paint it.

Kay lives in Colorado Springs and works out of her studio at Cottonwood Center for the Arts. She is represented in galleries from Montana to New Mexico. Her work has been accepted into many regional and national juried shows including Oil Painters of America and Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters.
