Lori DiPasquale

I love encaustics! It is the perfect medium for me to create depth and texture through the layering of wax and pigments. I love the dichotomy of encaustics, its fluidity yet exact and immediate nature. Working in encaustics is a practice in non-attachment and letting go as I use the heat gun to paint, melt and fuse. My work is sometimes an abstract study in color and texture, creating depth through the layering and fusing of colors. Other times my work is more whimsical, using found objects like a dangling thread, or shards of a broken vase. If I can create a piece that elicits a thought, a feeling or a memory from the observer, if it speaks to them personally, then I feel like my work is a success.

My art, like life itself, continues to evolve. I am constantly building upon my life experiences, growing and changing with all that I learn. I have been a decorative artist for nearly 20 years, well trained with a skillful eye for seeing color and creating warm and welcoming spaces. My journey has beckoned me to move outside the box of comfort in creating artful spaces, walls that please others or match the upholstery, and create work that is a self-expression, that hopefully elicits a thought or feeling from the observer.
